The JD STATUS loyalty program launched in September 2023 in line with JD’s ‘Beyond Physical Retail’ strategic ambitions, to deepen customer relationships with an objective to drive deeper customer affinity lifetime value. As part of the launch, JD took on a challenge to integrate their new loyalty program seamlessly into the customer's shopping journey without adding friction to the shopper experience. JD explored creative options to encourage customers to join STATUS post-purchase, allowing customers to reap a host of loyalty benefits such as cashback, without complicating the checkout process.
Transforming receipts, rewriting retail rules
Slip proposed using digital receipts as a frictionless channel to enable loyalty acquisition post-purchase. A custom solution integrated into JD Sports' POS system enabled SMS delivery of digital receipts with prompts to join STATUS, automatically allowing customers to join the programme and retrospectively earn via JDs cashback offering - a seamless post-purchase loyalty sign-up.
The initial phase in Manchester saw remarkable success, leading to a nationwide rollout across the UK within 4 weeks. Slip's solution now supports over 400 stores, driving 20,000+ STATUS downloads.
